PGA NovaWorld Phan Thiet (Ocean Course)
About
Award-winning 18-hole links-style course from Greg Norman
Situated in the reliably temperate climes of southern coast of Vietnam, adjacent to the East Sea, the Ocean Course at PGA NovaWorld Phan Thiet is an award-winning 18-hole links course from designer Greg Norman that was heralded as the Best New Course in Asia Pacific at the 2022 Asian Golf Awards and holds the distinction of being Vietnam's inaugural licensed Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) club. Rustic bunkers and meticulously sculpted turf merge seamlessly with the indigenous landscape, embodying a harmonious interplay between nature, while the greens exhibit subtle undulations, often featuring multiple tiers.
Noteworthy among the array of captivating holes is the 5th, a picturesque downhill par-3 offering enchanting sea vistas, its modest-sized green defended by a frontal bunker and challenging runoffs. An astute club selection, taking into account the capricious wind, proves crucial in securing par.
The back nine commences with an elongated par-4, elegantly bending away from the ocean. Opting to drive over the corner affords a more straightforward approach to the green but entails the risk of finding the waste bunker that lines the entire fairway.
This hole sets the stage for the PGA Ocean's even more demanding 11th to 18th holes, presenting alternative routes for the par-4s and par-5s, featuring both safer options and audacious lines that abbreviate the course but intensify the challenge.
The heart of the course lies within the trio of holes 13, 14, and 15, affectionately known as the Shark Loop. The 13th, a compelling short par-5 from an elevated tee, beckons as a two-shot opportunity when played skillfully. Following suit, the 14th unfolds as a driveable par-4, a rarity in Vietnamese golf, offering the potential for consecutive eagles.
The crescendo of the Shark Loop arrives at the 15th, a sprawling 650-yard par-5 demanding a nuanced approach to a two-tiered green safeguarded by an intricate waste bunker.
The extensive facilities at PGA NovaWorld Phan Thiet include a 325-yard driving range, short game practice area, and an 18-hole putting course. A plethora of fine dining options beckons at various F&B outlets, complemented by two of Vietnam's premier on-course kiosks. The generously stocked pro shop and opulent changing rooms further enhance the experience.
