Demanding 27-hole layout with three varied nine-hole loops
Vietnam's first international championship golf course when it first opened in 1994, Song Be Golf Resort is a demanding 27-hole layout made up of three nine hole loops (Lotus, Palm and Desert) that wind through an attractive natural landscape of fruit orchards and coconut palms. Mature tree-lined fairways and large, undulating greens combine with onsite lakes to provide one of the toughest challenges in the country, notably on the recently added Desert nine.
The beautiful lotus ponds and lakes of the aptly named Lotus Course provide an attractive backdrop to the first loop, where water is a factor on every hole. Notable holes include the 5th, a short par 3 that plays over water to a small green with OB and sand to the left and the lake to right, and the par-4 6th, which demands a very challenging approach over water and sand to an attractive lakeside green.
The opening holes of the Palm Course continue the water-heavy theme, with the 1st a right angle dogleg with water on both sides and the 2nd another par 3 with water from tee to green, but after that the course tightens up, with trees lining the narrow the fairways, notably at the long par-5 4th, which presents only a very narrow gap through which to thread your second. The last hole also features a long tree in the centre of the fairway, and with bunkers on both sides of all the landing zones, it's a tough finish.
As you begin the Desert Course, you could be fooled into thinking you are in Arizona and not Vietnam. A very unique layout full of sandy waste areas, it's the most difficult of the three nines and should probably be avoided by high handicappers since any missed fairway will have you playing from a sandy lie.
There's water to contend with too, the 3rd, 4th and 5th all featuring tough approaches over a lake, and the 8th requiring most people to carry two separate lakes on their second shot. The last hole is another long par 5 with a particularly narrow fairway tracing a haphazard route through the sand, and a pair of greenside bunkers offering up one reason to reach for your sand wedge.
With the excellent clubhouse offering all the usual facilities, as well as some scenic views over the course, Song Be Golf Resort makes for an excellent stop on any Hanoi golf holiday.

Caddies were great, carts were cool to drive around in.
Weather was really hot, but not much you can do about that, so take ice water if you can. Course was in ok condition, and the clubhouse was really clean and modern. Despite not speaking a word of Vietnamese, all the staff looked after us and got us checked in and checked out. Really enjoyed the day. First time we've used golfsavers, really good experience, will definitely use againGood

When we made reservations with travel agent we were told what charged to expect, we ask dress code. When we arrived after our driver left we mere made to purchase clothes and had about 1,000,000 dong added to the price we were told the cost would be. They were very argumentative at the course.
