About
Excellent 36-hole public course in a central location
Conveniently located just 4km from the centre of Ho Chi Minh City, next to the airport, Tan Son Nhat Golf Course is a 36-hole public course designed by Nelson and Hayworth, who transformed some very flat terrain into a top class golf course. Significant earth mounding, water hazards, large bunkers, and undulating greens combine to offer an enjoyable challenge, while the use of paspalum grass throughout ensures excellent playing conditions year-round. Add in the stunning views of the city skyline and the floodlights available for night play and it's easy to see why the course proves so popular.
The course is made up of four 9-hole loops, each meticulously maintained. The bunkering is extensive throughout, and a number of holes feature water, so the occasionally blustery conditions can lead you into danger, but there are still opportunities to score well, particularly since the greens are somewhat slower than you would expect.
There are several standout holes on each of the four courses. While fairway bunkers are the main threat on the first half of the A Course, a particularly water-heavy run of holes at the end live longer in the memory. Your drive at the 6th must start from a peninsula tee box and find the narrow gap between a cluster of fairway bunkers on the right and water to the left, and there's another tee shot over water at the 9th, where massive bunkers lurk, not least just short of the ridged, lakeside green.
The B Course follows a similar pattern, with sand to deal with on the early holes, notably at the par-4 3rd which features no less than seven sizeable sand traps. Water then once again becomes a factor, with a pair of par 3s requiring water carries and a tough approach required at the excellent par-4 5th, where the green sits behind a lake and huge beach bunker.
The best holes on the C Course come in the second half, with the 6th a short par 4 with a tough approach required over water to find a small green surrounded by five bunkers. The 8th is a pretty par 3 with water from tee to green, a pair of bunkers either side of the kidney-shaped putting surface lurking menacingly, while there's time for one more water carry on approach to the final green at the long par-5 9th.
The best hole on the D Course is probably the 6th, a dramatic, sweeping dogleg par 5 that arcs around a huge lake. While there are no bunkers in the landing zone off the tee, there are 11 sand traps closer to the green, so getting on in two would require the perfect fade to slip between the massed defenses. The approach at the 9th is a fittingly tough conclusion, as the green sits right on the water and a pair of bunkers lurk on the other side.
Golf carts are mandatory, while the caddies are generally male army recruits with limited English skills. Floodlights allow for night golf, so it's possible to play well into the night if you're keen to avoid the heat of the day.
The clubhouse at Tan Son Nhat Golf Course is one of the largest in Asia, with the ability to accommodate up to 5,000 guests for events. The facilities are excellent, including a pro shop, driving range, chipping and putting areas, locker rooms, and changing areas, while the on-site restaurant offers delicious and affordable local and international dishes.
Overall, Tan Son Nhat Golf Course makes for a great day out on any Hanoi golf holiday.
Reviews
Golf course condition is good, just next to airport.
The arrival and play is possible in HCM city with this course. The male caddie is quite professional and pace of play is good. The fairway is wide very good for novice player.Overall a very enjoyable experience and great value for money. I will be back here again one day
The course was in great condition today 29/5/24, they hosted a tournament and we tee’d off at 5:20am which was prior to the event commencing. Whilst the fairways are wide and there are not many trees, the strategically placed bunkers and water hazards make this course very challenging. The flags were setup for the championship which made it even harder but it was a lot of fun. Caddies can be mixed and I found my guy to be ok he didn’t really offer much help other than fetching clubs and cleaning my ball. The greens were hard to read and mostly raised with many bunkers around them, you do get used to them though. Practice your short range flop shots before playing here. Pace of play was great with the early tee time, we did not have much waiting time at all throughout our round. The clubhouse facilities are some of the best I’ve seen across SE Asia. The only let down for me was the buffet which is included in the round fee. The food was mostly cold and there were no western options at all.An amazing
A wonderful experience to play this golf course! The caddies are wonderful, the conditions of the golf course were the best. A tough lay out the first few times of your plate, particularly from the tips.Course Info
