Located in a peaceful rural setting around 90 minutes from Ho Chi Minh City, Twin Doves Golf Club is a 27-hole championship golf course known for its extensive landscaping and the immaculate conditioning of its paspalum playing surface. Although the course is still in the process of maturing and has limited trees, it compensates for this with an abundance of water hazards and bunkers that provide ample protection across the three nine hole loops, namely Luna, Stella, and Sole.
The Luna Course features gently undulating terrain that winds through fruit orchards and forested hills. The opener is a challenging uphill par 4 with a particularly deep pot bunker next to the green, while water makes its first appearance to the left of the fairway at the long par-5 second, which notably features a sprawling bunker right in the landing zone for your tee shot.
The 5th is a great par 3 that plays over a lake to a narrow green guarded by a substantial bunker in front, and there's more danger on approach to the 7th, where the water intrudes into the fairway and the green is guarded by a trio of menacing bunkers.
The 9th, a long par 5 that doglegs around water, is best of all. Your drive must carry water and a trio of bunkers to find the narrowing fairway, although if you can flirt dangerously with the water you might set yourself up for a long second into the green, which juts out into the lake and is protected by a pair of sand traps.
The Stella course is more water heavy, with the wet stuff either side of the otherwise straightforward opener, but after that the course gets more challenging and longer, with the very narrow fairway at the par-4 3rd a good example. The only par 3 on the course, the 5th, is a beauty, with a daunting tee shot to a green surrounded by water on three sides, while the 6th is a genuine par 5 where the lake repeatedly cuts into the fairway as you negotiate your way between the numerous bunkers.
The last two holes are par 4s with huge sandy waste areas running all the way up the left side, but the 9th is the better hole, with a tough tee shot to narrow fairway that weaves between a phlanx of bunkers and a nervy approach over water to a green guarded by bunkers on three sides.
The Sole course is the easiest of the three, though there are still enough challenges to keep you engaged. The 3rd hole requires a tee shot over water to reach a green protected by a large bunker, and there water and numerous bunkers in play throughout the par-4 6th. As with the other nines, it ends on a high, with the 9th a long par 5 with water both sides and a fairway that severely narrows as you near the green.
As befits a private members club, the facilities at Twin Doves Golf Club are first class, with spacious locker rooms, extensive practice areas, and an excellent pro-shop. The onsite restaurant serves a variety of Vietnamese, Asian, and Western fare, and the terrace offers great views over the course.
